Located about 1 mile east of Grand Marais, Spirit Haven was built, single handedly, in 1958 by Byron Bradley, co-founder of the Grand Marais Art Colony as a cozy cabin/studio for a bachelor. A decade and a half later, now a family man, another bedroom, a studio and a large deck were added. One bedroom has a double bed and the other has bunk beds with a sofa bed in the living room. The kitchen has a full complement of top-notch cookware with a table that seats 4. Bathroom has shower but no tub. There is a unique settee in the living room that opens into a table that seats eight or more.
The cabin houses both an old upright piano and an old reed pump organ. The focal point of the cabin is a frescoed wall surrounding a large stone gas fireplace. This rustic cabin itself sits almost at water's edge, a feat impossible to duplicate today. A canoe, two paddles and two life jackets are available for your use. Please note: Vehicles that sit close to the road/ground will not be able to negotiate the driveway. Please use caution in traversing the rather rustic path that leads to the home from the parking area.
