Louisiana Vacation Rentals
Louisiana, the Pelican State, has a fascinating and varied history that is reflected in its colorful culture. First discovered by Hernando de Soto in 1541 and claimed for Spain, Louisiana has been ruled by France, England, The Confederacy and the United States. The state was named for King Louis XIV of France, and today still clings to the strong French influence that immigrants and cultural groups have brought to its doors. Louisiana is known for its interesting Cajun and Creole history and flavor; the Cajuns were a group of Acadian French Canadians who, rather than renounce Catholicism and swear loyalty to Great Britain, moved to the bayous of the southern US. While there, they mixed cultures and bloodlines with the Creoles, a group with African, Caribbean and Hispanic roots who came here seeking freedom and acceptance. Cajun and Creole cooking, music and dance have all come to be hallmarks of Louisiana, and are still associated with this wonderful state. The major cities of New Orleans and Shreveport, the capital, are full of historical attractions and beautiful old buildings and squares, lots of shady parks, great shopping and fabulous restaurants. The Gulf Coast here is warm and scenic, and offers visitors wonderful vacation opportunities.
