The Artisan House has three bedrooms, all upstairs. The master bedroom suite, with king bed, includes its own wood stove, a claw-foot tub, plus full bath with shower, and its own private deck. The second bedroom looks into the trees and has a queen bed. Then up a small flight of stairs is a crow's nest bedroom, with queen bed and a half wall to the hallway, the ultimate in top of the world sleeping. There is another full bath on the second floor, with shallow bathtub perfect for children as well as a shower. Two single floor futons provide additional sleeping.

The grounds are over a third-acre, fully fenced. The deck features a six-person hot tub, a teak table for four, benches, and a gas grill.

With the attached Artisan House Granny Unit, just a few steps away, Artisan House sleeps 14. The granny unit, washed in Mediterranean color, has its own, quite separate, charm. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second a double bed. There is a small sleeping loft with a single bed reached by ladder through one of the bedrooms, and there is a single floor futon. The Artisan House Granny Unit has its own living/dining room, washer/dryer, bath with combination tub/shower, television for movies only, and full, but simply furnished, kitchen.

November through April, holidays excepted, the main Artisan House alone, sleeping eight, may be available as a rental at a reduced rate.

Located just south of the Monte Rio bridge, Artisan House is 200 yards across the bridge to the beach for swimming, fishing, and boat rentals. The Rio movie theater is next to the beach, Pegasus Theater with live theater all summer and fall is a half block further. Walk to the grocery store, the Pink Elephant Bar, Fern’s pizza and video rentals, and Baby Blue Restaurant, home of wonderful breakfasts and lunches. The Village Inn, with its charming vintage bar and excellent restaurant, with award winning wine list, overlooks the river, a five minute walk from Artisan House.

Because this is a very quiet neighborhood, no loud music or noise is permitted after 11 p.m. on weekends, 10 p.m. on weekdays. Please respect the peace and quiet of the neighbors!

Forestville is most convenient to wineries, Sebastopol, and Santa Rosa, followed by Guerneville and Monte Rio.
There is little difference in temperature between Guerneville and central Monte Rio. Forestville will be slightly warmer, while Duncans Mills and Cazadero will be slightly cooler. There is no air-conditioning here (with a few exceptions): the ocean breezes provide natural cooling at night and homes in warmer areas have fans. The Northwood golf course area is 2 - 3 miles west of Guerneville and, although this is technically Monte Rio, these homes are as close to Guerneville as they are to central Monte Rio.

Duncans Mills is close to the ocean, with some marine influence, yet still enjoys warm, sunny days in the summer.

Cazadero is redwood forest, with an all-year creek running through it; in general the most secluded homes will be found here.

Homes along the river are generally not as private as the homes along the creeks or in the forest, although there are exceptions. The river homes are rarely fenced and most will have some small degree of road noise since River Road, running along the river, is the main artery for the area. We do have some river homes free of all road noise. If this is a major issue for you, please ask us.

There is a 24-hour Safeway and a health food store in Guerneville and smaller markets in Forestville and Monte Rio, as well as a general store in Cazadero. On Hwy 166 north of Sebastopol, Andy's Market is worth a stop. There are video rentals in all towns except Duncans Mills. Guerneville has bicycle rentals. The best shopping is in Guerneville and Duncans Mills.

Boat rentals are in Guerneville, Monte Rio, and Duncans Mills. Boating depends upon river and weather conditions and many homes with boats have seasonal docks. We cannot guarantee boating will be possible or safe anytime other than mid-June through mid-September.
