Anchorage Vacation Rentals

Anchorage is quite unique in its natural landscapes and historical venues, and in 2002 it was selected as one of 10 cities nationwide to receive the All American City Award. In fact, Anchorage has been granted this title three other ties in the past, and only seven other cities have shared this award. Don’t be fooled by the misconceptions that have been stated about Alaska’s climate. Contradictory to the belief that it is often cold and dark, the state actually receives quite mild weather year-round from the Japanese currents off the Pacific Ocean and protection from the Chugach Mountains. If you ask the locals, they will tell you that the best way to dress in Alaska for outdoor adventures is to include lots of layers in your wardrobe, so that you can peel on or off as the weather permits. Contrary to myths that have been stated about the darkness that occurs throughout the state, In Anchorage, there are 24 hours of daylight on Summer Solstice. In the summer, as you travel north, you will find more sunlight. In Barrow for example, the sun doesn’t set for 84 days. Photographers fall in love with Alaska for its long twilight hours and in winter the sun is low on the horizon for long periods of time, casting a colorful light over the already amazing landscapes. Once darkness falls, you can search for the northern Lights. Of course when you come to Anchorage, you will have to partake in one of the most well-known activities in the state, sportfishing. In south central Alaska, species of Alaska Salmon, rainbow trout, monster sized halibut, and all five species of pacific salmon, all within a day’s drive. For some amazing sightseeing, the calm waters of Prince William Sound or Kenai Fjords National Park, offer spectacular tidewater glaciers.
