Location
This Tuscan apartment for rent in the world famous Val di Chiana wine region near the hilltop village of Manciano is within driving distance to Castilgion Fiorentino, Arezzo and Cortona. The medieval hamlet of Manciano has food shops, a supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacy, café, and a weekly town market. Built on fertile soil, the local economy is primarily cereals, grapes and olives although there is a strawberry festival held yearly in May and a wine festival in September. Sure to be a highlight of your experience, visit the local cheese manufacture, “Caseificio Sociale di Manciano” for organically prepared Tuscan cheeses. Nearby Castiglion Fiorentino is believed to be of Etruscan antiquity, with wonderful hiking and biking routes, antique shopping and medieval structures. The Church of Saint Angelo, Church of Saint Francesco, and Palazzo Pretorio all date back to the 13th century. From Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona is a short drive away and has frescoed churches, original city walls, art exhibits, a 16th century fortress, museums, libraries, and monasteries. Take a daytrip into Arezzo, a city characterized by a beautiful array of architectural styles, from Etruscan ruins to the Roman amphitheatre and the Medici Fortress. The first Sunday every month there is a very popular antique fair that attracts large amounts of people. The city hosts an annual festival called "Joust of the Saracens," where all of the citizens dress in medieval attire to watch "knights" charge at a target (representing the Saracen king).
